baum | a tree bookshelf
intro
baum is a personal project of mine that I designed and built myself. Growing up I never really had my own place to display my beloved books so I decided to design and create my own bespoke shelf.
design challenge
Due to the asymmetric design of this shelf,
the challenge of creating this tree was thinking about how it was going to be structurally sound &
balanced when books are placed on the branches.
joinery
All joins on baum are dowel joints, a strong joining method that results in a neat seamless finish.
Towards the centre of the tree where the load is the greatest, multiple rows of dowels are inserted.
